I do not know Kent Smith and his wife personally. But God united our paths for a beautiful purpose. We have written and talked on the phone. He lives in Virginia and his intention was to visit Puerto Rico, but Hurricane Irma postponed his trip. Days after Irma's passage, we talked about how it was possible to come as there was no significant damage, but María arrived, the hurricane that changed the history of Puerto Rico.
During the first four weeks after Maria's crossing, it was practically impossible for me to communicate with anyone. Almost 7 weeks later I managed to read a message from Kent. Briefly, I replied that everything was fine and that God was providing me provision to support others. It was weeks after I saw another message from Kent where he asked me if we needed anything. At that time, we were going for more than two months without electricity and it was really exhausting for people to deal with this situation. I thought of asking for batteries and flashlights to distribute. I placed the order and Kent immediately told me that we could count on that help.
That same night, the Lord woke me up and put in my heart that we did not really need electricity in Puerto Rico. What was really needed was the Light of Christ in our hearts. That Light that sets aside any darkness of fear and affliction and fills us with faith, trust, hope and a peace that surpasses all understanding. The next day I wrote back to Kent and explained what God had put in my heart. He immediately responded that we could count on some Bibles in Spanish.
Today my wife called me from the post almost unable to talk about the emotion. She told me that the Bibles had arrived, and they were beautiful. My heart is also filled with joy knowing that we now have the true Light that is the Word of God and today we will begin to distribute these beautiful Bibles to those leaders and people who need or need to know the Gospel.
God has shown me his greatness in this crisis. He has given the provision and has given me the strength to help the needy through the distribution of food, water, and words. But now God has provided the most important thing that is the Light of his word through these Bibles. Thank you, Kent, for being an instrument of God and give us this gift of Light.
